You Should be Watching (January)

January 2011:
Television, theaters, DVDs (or Blu Ray, I guess - if you want to shell out an extra ten bucks for exactly the same thing), foreign releases, and what-have-you. This is what you should be watching in January. If you have good socks on, you may want to keep an eye on them, as they might soon be knocked off.

"Red" (Movie DVD)
I personally haven't seen this one yet. But the previews were so good that I'm recommending on the strength of the cast and the trailers alone. As always - in situations where I haven't seen something - I reserve the right to act like this never happened later.

Prepare for (possible) action comedy awesomeness January 25th.

"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" (Anime DVD)
A lot of people probably saw the first "Fullmetal Alchemist" series and assumed, a) that it was the actual story and, b) that it was the best it could have been. The second series diverts from the original in a number of ways. I approve of the majority of these. For your money, this is probably one of the best anime series available today. Go pick it up.

The third part should be available now, assuming your local video store doesn't suck.

"NFL Football" (Sports)
Do I really need to show you a trailer? I think you know what this is. Granted, this is probably the least nerdy thing I'll ever recommend watching. If you can't get over how weird it is for a nerd to enjoy professional sports, just think I'm in it for the snack foods.

Playoffs are starting  January 15th, or later, if your team (like mine) is awesome enough to have a bye.

"Season of the Witch" (Movie Theaters)
I'm fairly optimistic about this one. As is my usual system, if Nicolas Cage has normal hair in a movie, there's a good chance it will be good. Not to mention, it seems like a pretty good fantasy romp. Coming off a good performance in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," I'm actually pretty excited to see this movie at the moment. But, as is my usual system with Nicolas Cage, it could change any second.

Witchy goodness is coming January 7th.

"The Green Hornet" - Movie Theaters
Once again, I've been won over by a few cute trailers for a movie I haven't seen. I'm not old enough to be excited to think of this movie as a remake, as the old one is practically ancient by now. But still, I think Seth Rogan will be good for the role. I might miss it in theaters, but it might be good to catch in Redbox later.

Butt-kicking remakes of stuff I'm too old to remember are coming January 14th.
